Focus and Pass

To learn, you must have focused time. We see hundreds of candidates each year. From finance backgrounds and completely new to finance. The curriculum is hard but making a study plan that works is not rocket science. You have to carve out quality time to study.

Why? Because to create value you must concentrate. Deep work is:

“Professional activity performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that push your cognitive capabilities to their limit. These efforts create new value, improve your skill, and are hard to replicate.”

Everything else is shallow work. When you let your phone and computer ping you while studying, you will likely fail. And fail. And fail.

“Non-cognitively demanding, logistical-style tasks, often performed while distracted. These efforts tend to not create new value in the world and are easy to replicate.”

So this is simple.

First you block out your focused time. Do it now for the next week. You can block out long stretches of time or an hour here and there. Block it out, color it in, put the importance on this time.

Then find whatever works for you to shut everything off and focus. This is not like work and definitely not like administrative details. This time is the quality time with new material that your brain needs.

Any less and you will fail.
